The Mural Building: Arden Shore Child & Family Services

Our newest mural features artwork depicting Arden Shore’s commitment to helping families thrive. The mural’s three panels are inspired by the organization’s mission to rebuild children’s lives in a caring community. With 125 years dedicated to helping children reach their full potential — cognitively, socially, and emotionally — Arden Shore works tirelessly to ensure that children have what they need to succeed.

Arden Shore’s history dates back to the summer of 1898 when members of the Glencoe Congregational Church organized a respite camp overlooking Lake Michigan on the county line. The two-week program jumpstarted the community building the organization has become known for, giving hundreds of mothers and children a healthy living experience.

Though much has changed since Arden Shore’s inception, the vital sense of belonging derived from family embrace remains timeless. By honoring history, fostering family, and celebrating community, Arden Shore creates these opportunities for belonging.

Building community

Arden Shore’s 125th anniversary is a celebration of the thousands of people who dedicated their lives to rebuilding the lives of children and families. From the Great War to the Great Recession, meaningful partnerships with parents, service organizations, philanthropists, and advocates empowered Arden Shore to adapt and effectively meet complex and evolving needs. Today, Arden Shore’s family preservation programming, foster care, and mental health services span three counties, impacting 1,850 children and adults in 2022. Sustained community engagement is essential to ensure Arden Shore can continue addressing the underlying challenges facing children and their families.
